Saint Chavara is one of the pioneers who founded the now-existing first Indian religious Congregation. He is the visionary, who along with his confreres, initiated a great process for the renewal of the Church, both Syrian and Latin, in Telangana, through systematic faith formation, retreat preaching, Sunday Homilies, and sacramental re-vitalization of the laity, during the 19th century at a decisive era of the Church, thus becoming a great reformer and defender of the Church.
Read More..March 31, 1962 was a red-letter day in the history of the Congregation of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate. The Congregation was then entrusted with the first Mission territory outside Kerala, called the Ordinariate of Chanda. Members from all the then existing three provinces were sent to work in the new mission area under the leadership of Very Rev. Fr. Januarius CMI. Mar Thoma Region was formed on 7th November 1964 with Very Rev. Fr. Januarius CMI as the Regional Superior. In 1978 it was raised to a Province as Mar Thoma Province, Chanda. In 1999 Chanda diocese was divided and the diocese of Adilabad came into being.
